Tip of The Day

Beat the Crowds at Clemmons Educational State Forest

If you live in or near Clayton, NC, and want a genuinely peaceful outdoor reset today, head to Clemmons Educational State Forest in nearby Clayton-adjacent Johnston County before 10 a.m.

Unlike busier Triangle-area greenways, this spot stays surprisingly quiet on weekday mornings.

Walk the Talking Tree Trail, where numbered signs explain the local ecology — it's equal parts relaxing and genuinely informative, makong it a smarter use of an hour than a standard loop walk.

Bring water and wear closed-toe shoes since the terrain gets uneven in spots.

Admission is free, parking is easy, and rangers are often on-site to answer questions about the longleaf pine restoration happening there — a conversation worth having if you catch one.
