Swimsgiving in Smithfield Turns a Pool Day Into Thanksgiving Giving |
Bring four nonperishable food items per swimmer on Saturday, November 14, to help Johnston County families |
A swim in November can do more than make a splash when Swimsgiving returns to Smithfield on Saturday, November 14, 2026.
The community event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the pool area at the Smithfield Recreation & Aquatic Center, 600 M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway.
Instead of paying regular pool admission, participants can bring four cans or other nonperishable food items per person to take part in the swim, according to the town's event announcement.
It's a chance to enjoy some time in the water while helping stock local families' kitchens ahead of Thanksgiving.
Smithfield Parks and Recreation says the donated groceries will provide Thanksgiving meals and additional food for families in the community.
The department is partnering with the Smithfield Police Department to get those supplies to neighbors who need them.
For a family of four hoping to swim, that means bringing 16 nonperishable food items in total.
The event's colorful official Swimsgiving flyer also notes that the splash pad opens at 10 a.m. and stays open until its usual closing time.
The four-item admission arrangement applies to the pool area only, so anyone planning to use another part of the center should check its regular admission rules.
Visitors can review pool and splash-pad information online before making their plans.
Whether you're a regular swimmer or just looking for a family outing, Swimsgiving offers a simple way to combine recreation with helping neighbors during the holiday season.
Bring your donations with you when you arrive, and be sure to count four items for each person entering the pool.
