Saturday, October 24, offers two reasons to spend time in downtown Smithfield: a final market morning and a lively festival afternoon.

The Smithfield Signature Fresh Market closes its 2026 season with shopping from 8 a.m. to noon.

You can make a full day of it or choose the part that fits your schedule.

Begin with the market

See the event calendar and current market location for details.

The recurring fresh market lets shoppers browse locally produced goods before the season ends.

If you have been meaning to visit, this is the announced final date for 2026.

Bring a shoping bag and think about what you can use at home during the coming week.

Ask individual sellers about availability and payment methods rather than expecting every stall to offer the same choices.

For perishable purchases, plan suitable cooling or a trip home before spending several more hours downtown.

Confirm the current market location through the downtown organizer’s event calendar before setting your directions.

Public listings give conflicting market locations, so this guide does not present one uncertain address as settled.

Visitors can expect food options such as bratwurst, pretzels, sauerkraut, and apple strudel, but check availability at the event.

Admission is free, but budget separately for food, beverages, and shopping.

The event is advertised as family-friendly, so you can enjoy music and the marketplace without participating in beer-related activities.

Choose the parts of the afternoon that suit your household.

Keep current details close

Weather can affect an outdoor event, and an earlier announcement may not reflect a later change.

Before sharing the outing with neighbors, keep the two sets of hours separate, so nobody mistakes the market for an afternoon event.

The market runs 8 a.m.–noon

You can also invite a friend to just one part of the day without committing to the entire schedule.

See the county festival listing for details.

A fall Saturday close to home

Smithfield neighbors and visitors from nearby towns,

Browse local goods in the morning, enjoy music and festival activities later, or stop by for whatever interests you most.

Save October 24th, then check the latest organizer details before leaving.

I like that families can enjoy the music, vendors and Kids Zone without the day being centered only around beer. Four hours is a good length for something like this too. Should be a fun Saturday in downtown Smithfield.

Bratwurst, pretzels and apple strudel. That’s enough to get me there.

Stein holding and trivia should be entertaining even if you’re just watching.

I hate to see the Fresh Market season end, but pairing the last one with Oktoberfest makes a nice finale. I may do the market early and come back downtown for lunch.

Does anyone know where the Fresh Market will be set up that morning? I saw the note about checking the location before heading out.

Good reminder to bring a cooler bag if you're shopping at the market first. Four hours is a long time to leave cheese or meat sitting in a hot car while you watch trivia.

An oompah polka band in downtown Smithfield is not something I expected to ever type but here we are. Genuinely curious how that sounds echoing off the storefronts.

The Oompah band is what caught my attention. You don’t get to hear that around Smithfield every weekend.

Last market of the season always sneaks up on me. I missed it two years in a row and then spent all winter wishing I had stocked up on the local honey they sell there.

Wish the article could just say where the market is. Clicking through to find a location that might be wrong anyway is a little frustrating tbh.

I’m glad the Oktoberfest part is free to get into. We can walk around, hear the music and decide what food we want once we get there.

Stein holding competition sounds hilarious to watch even if you're not participating. That alone might be worth showing up for at noon.

Really glad the Oktoberfest is free admission. That makes it way easier to bring the whole family without doing math in the parking lot. Will definitely budget extra for bratwurst though.

Fresh Market in the morning and Oktoberfest in the afternoon sounds like a full day downtown.
