Riggsbee Road Plays Free Smithfield Concert October 9 |
Country, newgrass and popular hits at Fall Fridays on Front, 7 to 9 p.m. |

Riggsbee Road will bring country, newgrass and popular hits to downtown Smithfield on Friday, October 9, for a free evening beside the Neuse River.
The concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Neuse River Amphitheater, 150 South Front Street, as part of the town’s Fall Fridays on Front series.
For readers looking for something specific to do this week, this is an outdoor concert with a named band, a two-hour time slot and no admission charge.
A country sound with a different mix
Riggsbee Road is an all-female group whose repertoire crosses country music, newgrass and familiar popular songs.
The band’s appeal includes vocal harmonies, instrumental musicianship and a lively stage presence, according to the town’s description of the October performance.
That combination gives concertgoers more to anticipate than a general promise of live entertainment: country sounds share the program with bluegrass-influenced music and recognizable popular material.
Newgrass generally refers to a progressive approach to bluegrass, allowing broader musical influences while retaining connections to the genre’s instrumental traditions.
The announced description does not provide a song-by-song set list, so readers should expect the advertised musical mix rather than any particular hit.
It is an opportunity to discover a band while keeping the evening close to home.
For someone who enjoys harmonies and country music but also likes variety, the combination offers a clear reason to consider the show.

A riverside setting in downtown Smithfield
The Neuse River Amphitheater places the performance on South Front Street, with the river setting forming part of the evening’s attraction.
Bring a lawn chair or blanket, as organizers recommend, so you have a comfortable way to settle in for the music.
An outdoor performance is a different experience from a theatre show: plan for the evening air and keep an eye on the weather before leaving home.
October temperatures can change after sunset, making an extra layer a sensible addition to whatever you bring for seating.
Families and friends can make the concert their main destination without committing to a costly ticket purchase.
Free admission does not mean everything on-site is included, so allow separately for food or drinks if those are part of your plan.
Food trucks and dinner options
Food trucks will be on-site, giving visitors the option of buying something to eat around the concert.
Downtown restaurants provide another possibility for anyone who would rather sit down for dinner before heading to the amphitheater.
The town’s announcement encourages visitors to arrive early and enjoy downtown businesses before the music begins.
If you choose a restaurant, check its current Friday hours and leave enough time to walk or travel to South Front Street.
If you prefer the food trucks, bring the evening’s essentials and keep the plan simple: dinner, a place to sit and the performance.
No specific food-truck lineup is included in the information reviewed, so avoid planning around a particular vendor or menu.
What to know before Friday
The essentials are straightforward: Friday, October 9, 2026; 7 to 9 p.m.; Neuse River Amphitheater; 150 South Front Street; free admission.
Before heading out, check the downtown event calendar for any weather-related changes or revised arrangements.
Visitors with questions about access, seating needs or other practical details should ask the organizers rather than assume every outdoor venue operates the same way.
Those attending together may find it useful to agree on a meeting point and arrival time before the evening begins.
The October show is one installment of the fall concert series, with another performance scheduled for November 6 featuring SouLe & The SuperBand.
For this week’s calendar, however, the focus is Riggsbee Road and an easy-to-find Friday evening in Smithfield.
Bring your chair or blanket, choose whether dinner belongs before or during the outing, and make time for country music, harmonies and a little variety by the river. |

Events like Fall Fridays give people a reason to spend the evening downtown instead of heading somewhere else. I hope they keep bringing in different bands. A lawn chair, some food and live music by the river sounds pretty good to me.
Love the 7 o’clock start time.
I’m more of a traditional country fan, so I’m curious about the newgrass part. Still, for a free local show I’d definitely give them a listen. It’s good to see different kinds of music coming to Smithfield.
This sounds like a nice evening. We may get something to eat downtown first and then head over for the concert.
Does anyone know if there’s plenty of parking close to the amphitheater? We may bring my mother, so I’m wondering how far the walk would be.
I really like that Smithfield is using the amphitheater for events like this. You can bring a chair, enjoy the river area and hear some live music without having to drive into Raleigh.
Never heard Riggsbee Road before. Country and newgrass sounds like an interesting combination.
Free music on a Friday night? I’m in.
