National Night Out at Flowers Plantation is now set for Tuesday, October 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Visit the official National Night Out event page →

The gathering brings neighbors and local public safety agencies together for an evening at Concert Park, 67 Flowers Crossroads Way, Clayton.

This is the rescheduled event originally planned for August 4.

Weather prompted the postponement, so anyone who saved the earlier date should update their calendar before making plans.

The October gathering offers a chance to enjoy a neighborhood evening while meeting the people who help keep the community safe.

Family activities and community connections

The announced attractions include inflatable bounce houses, an obstacle course, slides, inflatable games, face painting and a DJ.

Vehicles representing fire, EMS, law enforcement, the power company and a towing company are also listed for display.

For children interested in the equipment they see around town, the displays offer something different from a routine playground visit.

Parents can use the outing as an opportunity to talk with their children about the different jobs these community services perform.

Ask participating representatives which vehicles and equipment visitors may approach, and follow any instructions around the displays.

An outdoor gathering can also make it easier to introduce yourself to a neighbor you usually see only in passing.

Consider inviting a nearby friend or family member and choosing a meeting spot before you arrive.

Food and a limited snow-cone offer

Food trucks and event activities are scheduled on site, making it possible to include dinner in your evening plans.

The organizer also advertises free snow cones for the first 140, so that particular offer is limited.

Do not assume food-truck meals or other purchases are included in the giveaway.

If your household has food allergies or dietary requirements, ask the individual vendor about ingredients and preparation before ordering.

Bring a payment method for purchases, and allow time to browse the available options.

The announcement does not provide a complete food-truck menu, so decide what to eat after checking the vendors at the event.

Plan a comfortable Tuesday evening

Find the address and location information on the Concert Park venue page.

With a two-hour window, families can choose the activities that interest them most without turning the visit into an all-day outing.

Think about school-night routines when deciding when to arrive and how long to stay.

Comfortable shoes are a practical choice for walking between activity areas, and a light extra layer may be useful as the evening cools.

Check the forecast before leaving home and adjust clothing to the actual conditions.

Families with younger children may want to agree on a meeting point and keep an adult close during busy activities.

Ask attendants about age, height or participation rules before children enter an inflatable attraction.

The event announcement does not detail those rules, parking arrangements or accessibility accommodations.

Anyone who needs specific access information should email the organizer about accessibility ahead of the visit rather than assuming every activity will meet their needs.

The evening’s appeal is simple: time together close to home.

There is room in a neighborhood calendar for an outing that combines familiar faces, children’s activities and useful conversations with community partners.

Visitors can decide whether to focus on the vehicle displays, enjoy the music or spend time with neighbors.

Before setting out, check the current announcement for any last-minute weather or schedule changes.

Questions can be directed to Ryan Jordan, Flowers Plantation’s director of community safety, at ryan@flowersplantation.com.

Save the updated date: October 13, 5:30–7:30 p.m., at Concert Park.

Use the October schedule when sharing the event with friends, since an older flyer still carries the original August date.

Two hours sounds about right for a school-night event.

The first 140 snow cones could go quickly. It is useful to separate that giveaway from the food available for purchase. Families can plan their spending without assuming dinner is included.

Are there age limits for the inflatables?

The vehicle displays sound interesting for children. It would be helpful to know which displays allow visitors to get closer. Checking with the people supervising them is a good suggestion.

Glad the October date is clearly marked. The old August flyer could be confusing.
