Brogden Firefighters’ Barbecue Begins October 16 at 11 a.m. |
A Smithfield-area fundraiser supporting the local fire department |

Brogden’s firefighters are giving Smithfield-area neighbors a reason to mark Friday, October 16, on the calendar: a barbecue fundraiser, with pickup starting at 11 a.m.
The date and pickup start were supplied to JoCo Buzz by publisher Bob Backle. The event supports the local fire department, connecting a Friday meal with a community cause.
For arrangements, call Brogden Fire Department at 919-934-6262. This is the department’s listed office number, not an emergency line.
The menu, plate price, exact pickup point and closing time still need confirmation. Readers should check the Brogden Fire Department’s announcements and confirm those details with the organizers before placing an order or making the trip.
A local meal with a local purpose
A fundraiser like this offers a straightforward way to take part in community life. You can plan a lunch for yourself, coordinate with a friend or ask a neighbor whether they would like you to collect a plate.
Keep those plans flexible until you know the ordering arrangements. An announced starting time tells you when pickup begins; it does not establish whether reservations are needed, how long food will be available or whether every customer follows the same process.
If several people want food, choose one person to confirm the details and share the answer with the group. That can prevent different assumptions about price, payment or where everyone should meet.
The simplest plan starts with accurate information, then leaves room to enjoy the meal and the company.
Confirm the pickup location
The official county fire department directory identifies Brogden’s department and lists its office contact. A department directory is useful for reaching the right organization, but it is not an event flyer.
Ask where barbecue customers should go on October 16. Do not assume a station address, mailing address or an older location found online is the current pickup point.
Once the organizer confirms the destination, share that exact address with anyone collecting food for you. Ask whether there is a designated entrance or a separate process for advance orders. |

Know what you are ordering
Before promising plates to a household or workplace, find out what each order includes. Ask about the main dish, sides, portions and whether drinks or desserts are separate purchases.
Those details have not been confirmed for this report, so this article does not list a menu or advertise a price. A previous year’s flyer should not be treated as this year’s ordering guide.
If someone in your group has dietary requirements, ask the organizers about ingredients and preparation. Pass along the answer directly rather than guessing from the event’s name.
Find the department’s official social page through Johnston County’s fire department Facebook directory, and confirm accepted payment methods too. Bring the method the organizers request, and find out whether advance payment is required for reserved orders.
Collecting food for someone else
Offering to pick up a meal for a neighbor can make the fundraiser easier for someone who cannot attend. First check that the person wants a plate, understands the cost and will be home when you arrive.
For larger orders, ask about quantity limits, advance notice and the best collection time. Delivery, bulk discounts and a separate group-order line have not been confirmed, so check before including them in your plans.
Arrange a prompt handoff after collection. If your plans change, let the people expecting food know before they rely on your offer.
For an office lunch, collect everyone’s choices before contacting the organizer. Keep a written count so the person collecting the order knows what to request and how many meals to bring back.
If you are meeting friends instead, agree whether you will collect together or separately. One clear plan helps avoid duplicate orders. These are planning suggestions, rather than services promised by the department; the organizers should confirm how their fundraiser will operate on the day.
Share the date clearly
When mentioning the fundraiser to friends, keep the important details together: Brogden firefighters, the Smithfield-area community, Friday, October 16, and pickup beginning at 11 a.m.
Use the department’s current Facebook updates for any additional details. Avoid adding an assumed ending time or copying a menu from another department’s fundraiser.
Keep the confirmed information handy when planning. Save the date, confirm your order and pickup point, and make a local meal part of your Friday plans. |

Shared this with my neighbor who lives right off that road. She tries to support every fundraiser the local stations put on. Good reminder to check their Facebook page for the full details before heading out.
Appreciate the heads up but October 16 is a Friday and a lot of folks are working. Wonder if they plan to keep food available into the afternoon or if it wraps up early. Worth asking when you call.
We did this last year and the line moved pretty fast. Just make sure you get there closer to 11 if you want first pick. By early afternoon some items go quick.
Is the pickup at the station on Brogden Road or somewhere else? The article says to confirm but doesn't even give a starting point. Would have been nice to at least have a general area.
Brogden has always done good work out in that area. Glad to see them doing a fundraiser. Those departments run on tight budgets and a bbq plate is the least we can do to help out.
Does anyone know if they're doing pulled pork or chopped? That's the real question lol. Gonna call tomorrow morning to find out the price before I commit to picking up plates for the whole office.
