Jim Quick & Coastline Bring Free Concert to Benson Singing Grove |
Food vendors, a DJ and three hours of live music fill October 15 |

Benson is giving Johnston County music fans one more reason to spend a fall Thursday evening downtown. Jim Quick & Coastline will take the stage at the Benson Singing Grove on Thursday, October 15, for a free evening of live music.
The event is part of Benson’s concert series at the Singing Grove, located at 400 E. Main St. in Benson. Admission is free, and the evening gets underway well before the band takes the stage.
Food vendors open at 5:30 p.m., giving concertgoers time to grab something to eat and settle in. DJ Butch Halpin begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by Jim Quick & Coastline from 7 to 10 p.m.
A Carolina favorite comes to Benson
Jim Quick & Coastline has spent more than two decades playing across the Southeast. The band describes its sound as “Swamp Soul,” drawing from soul, blues, R&B and Americana and blending those influences with the beach-music traditions familiar to audiences across the Carolinas.
The group’s current tour calendar confirms Benson as its October 15 stop, followed the next night by a performance in North Myrtle Beach. |

An easy evening in downtown Benson
The Singing Grove has long served as one of Benson’s gathering places for concerts and community events. The park offers a stage, concessions, public restrooms, a playground and both parking-lot and street parking, according to Johnston County Visitors Bureau information.
For local families, couples and groups of friends, the October 15 concert offers a simple night out without an admission charge. Arriving when the food vendors open gives visitors time to eat before the DJ and live music begin.
The concert also closes out Benson’s 2026 series, which has brought several well-known regional acts to the Singing Grove this year, including The Embers featuring Craig Woolard, Band of Oz and Liquid Pleasure.

This is the kind of event I like seeing around Johnston County. You can hear a well-known Carolina band without buying a ticket, grab something from a food vendor, and make an evening of it. Benson did well getting Jim Quick & Coastline for the Downtown Sundown series.
Is there plenty of parking near the Singing Grove, or is it better to arrive early?
The Singing Grove is a nice setting for events like this, especially in October when the evenings are cooler. A free show with Jim Quick & Coastline should bring a good crowd into Benson and hopefully some extra business downtown too. Sounds like a good night to bring a chair and stay awhile.
Swamp Soul is a pretty good description of their sound.
I like the schedule on this one. Food vendors open first, then the DJ, and the band starts at 7. It gives people plenty of time to get downtown and settle in without rushing.
Does anyone know what food vendors are expected to be there? Getting there around 5:30 for supper before the music starts sounds like a good plan.
Glad to see another free concert at the Singing Grove.
Jim Quick & Coastline in Benson sounds like a fun Thursday night. Three hours of live music and no admission charge is hard to beat.
